I will probably not be at this one as I hope to be diving, but here is a method I use in Photoshop to convert colour pictures to mono. It gives you the effect of using filters and mono film.
Make a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer above the image, then make another one. Call the lower one Filter and the upper one Film.
Go to the Film adjustment layer, double-click the layer thumbnail and drag the saturation slider left to -100. Click OK. This makes the image into mono.
Go to the Filter adjustment layer and set the blending mode to Colour. Double-click the layer thumbnail to get the Hue control panel. Drag the Hue slider from side to side and watch the effect.
