Glorious evening light, a balmy summer afternoon, an evening trip to Beverley races, what could be better?
All seemed so straight forward, until the camera was switched on and the horses thundered past.
Members attending the meeting tried to capture the action.
We compared settings and ideas about how to capture very close, very fast moving jockeys and horses as they approached the line and went hurtling past.
We managed a few ‘acceptable’ images between us, but the challenge of trying to find a good vantage point and capture the fast action, during such a short time interval, was indeed testing!
Some of us balanced precariously on fence posts {above the course barrier}, to try to avoid obstacles such as white fence rails, others took alternative locations to capture the action.
Overall we all agreed that capturing competition quality images was very difficult! For a first attempt however, we managed to come away from the evening with some ‘reasonable results’.
We all agreed that more sessions like this where the weather is kind, the location is favourable and the challenge is testing….. were needed to provide us more practise. Possibly, just maybe a few competition entries might be developed with more practise – we live in hope of course.
Hope to see more members on the next trip.
