Blue skies, sunshine, 15°C, we had a perfect early spring day to start the club trip to Spurn Point. Perfect conditions for everyone, except of course “photographers”.
Harsh light, no clouds to speak of, – we have to make our excuses don’t we!
A group of members assembled at the discovery Centre at the allotted time, and after a short briefing session and a quick drink (breakfast in some cases), we commenced walking. The Lighthouse some 3miles from the Discovery Centre seemed a long way off for most of the trek! It took a little time, because we stopped off at various seashore and inland photogenic opportunities. We eventually arrived at the lighthouse in reasonable time for lunch, and then spent some ‘quality time’ developing our own compositions around the Point and lighthouse area. Some intrepid explorers ventured up the lighthouse, others chose to play and experiment with exposure /long exposure / filters and more, on the seashore while others looked at wildlife opportunities.
One of the real joys of these trips, is the opportunity to talk about all things photographic with colleagues and members. It’s amazing how much can be learned from one another in a relatively short period of time just chatting while walking – techniques, filters, exposure compensation, to mention just a few subjects of an endless list of tips and help. We have a very good knowledge sharing ethos within the club and it was certainly evident on this trip.
By 15:00 hours the weather conditions changed and began to become more like those expected at Spurn Point. With a cool breeze affecting our finger dexterity and our willingness to stay too long at the seashore, it was with some relief that the Unimog return transport arrived on time to ferry us back to the discovery Centre.
All agreed that the weight of our various backpacks had increased significantly during the enforced Covid lockdown – or was it simply that we were a little less fit? Regardless we all felt that the day had been very worthwhile, if for nothing more than shaking the cobwebs off the camera and kick-starting our creativity juices for future field trips. A few of the shots captured are displayed below, look forward to seeing you on the next trip.

It was a fabulous day out and certainly a place to return at some time in the future. Thanks for organising this Leigh.
I agree fully with Sue. Thanks Leigh!
